Dietary Counseling
Food as Medicine, Season by Season
|
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, food isn’t just fuel - it’s medicine. And like all medicine, the right “prescription” depends on the person, the season, and the imbalance at hand.
Dietary counseling is about helping you build a deeper relationship with what nourishes you. It’s not about counting or cutting, it’s about supporting your body’s rhythm with the energetics of food. Warm when you’re cold, grounding when you’re scattered, lightening when you’re heavy. This is nourishment that works with you, not against you. Small changes can create big shifts. Let’s build a way of eating that supports the way you want to feel. |
WHAT MAKES TCM-BASED NUTRITION DIFFERENT?
Unlike Western diet culture, TCM doesn’t prescribe a one-size-fits-all way to eat. Instead, we look at the energetic properties of food - warming, cooling, drying, moistening - and how they interact with your specific pattern of disharmony. A person experiencing cold, damp symptoms may need more cooked, warming foods. Someone with heat signs may benefit from cooling, hydrating ingredients. Your tongue, pulse, symptoms, and season of life all inform the recommendations you receive.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A SESSION
You’ll meet with Melissa to review your current eating habits, health goals, and TCM diagnosis. From there, she’ll offer practical, achievable guidance that may include food types, cooking methods, meal timing, and seasonal shifts.
No rigid rules—just small, supportive changes designed to bring your body back into balance.

DIETARY COUNSELING FAQ
Q: Is this a meal plan or a full nutrition program?
It’s more like a roadmap than a prescription. Melissa offers suggestions based on your body’s needs and the principles of TCM, not calorie counts or strict diets.
Q: Can this be part of my treatment plan?
Yes, and often is.
Food therapy can amplify the effects of acupuncture, herbal treatments, or bodywork by supporting your healing in daily life.
Q: What if I have dietary restrictions or follow a specific lifestyle diet (vegan, gluten-free, etc.)?
All recommendations are tailored to your personal preferences and needs. TCM principles can be applied to any style of eating.
Q: Do I need to be a current patient to receive dietary guidance?
While it’s most effective when combined with a full treatment plan, new patients are welcome to book dietary counseling as a standalone service.
